Blog 1 - Help! I’m stuck in an ELEVATOR WITH Spielberg

Ok.. .So I have this story Idea!

Basically we get thrown straight in the deep end first class. Pitches for our story. Well, exercises for pitching our story anyway. Imagine you were stuck in an elevator with Spielberg and you somehow have to convince him you have his next movie in your noggin. These are exercises to excavate that movie.

Short Synopsis

Anxie-Tee is a Feel-Good Drama Short Film, about Tee, a young adult suffering from crippling Social Anxiety, who must balance his condition and coping mechanisms, to have a fulfilling social life and find happiness within himself.

Long Synopsis

Anxie-Tee is a Feel-Good Drama Short Film, about Tee, a young adult suffering from crippling Social Anxiety, who struggles to have a successful Social Life and instead escapes into his own daydreams to find fulfillment.

Living next door to Elle, a girl Tee is drawn too has encouraged him to come out of his shell slightly in the past, but nowhere near enough to bring him to the point of making a connection. Still, Tee uses the 'Dutch Courage' his daydreams provide him to each day step out of his front door and try to make contact again.

Each time Tee tries to make these connections, however, his self doubt and anxiety hold him back. Feeling overwhelmed, Tee suffers severe panic attacks, which makes talking to people a difficult task. It isn't until one day, when Tee finds an almost unignorable reason, does he try his best to put his condition aside and reach out.

When Tee finds Elle's phone, he must decide whether to put faith in himself and make a connection with Elle, or take the easy road out and escape, once again, into his own dream world.

Genre Exercise

Anxie-Tee is a Feel-Good Drama about a young adult who must earth himself in reality and overcome his own inner demons to believe his own self-worth.

Film Examples

My Short Film balances the tonal shift of 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', combined with the coming-of-age aspects of 'The Way Way Back'.

By this point Spielberg had reached his floor but not realised as he is so captivated by your brilliance. Congrats, you’ve made it.
